The MVCMA is a collection of colorful, ornate summer cottages clustered in cul-de-sacs and little neighborhoods across 34 acres in Oak Bluffs. But that's all been taken care of. Whenever we have stayed in the Oak Bluffs harbor, we take the time to wander around Trinity Park, a 34-acre neighborhood of charming tiny gingerbread cottages and a designated historic landmark, nestled in the heart of Oak Bluffs. Voices rose together in unison and sang out loud and clear. I really wouldn't want to see Joe's face if I came up with this paint scheme for our house. The charming victorian gingerbread cottages that align Ocean Park and the Campgrounds are decorated with colorful Japanese lanterns at night during the grand illumination night. The third week of August picturesque Campground in Oak Bluffs is lit with lanterns and lifted with the sound of island voices singing together. If you shopped daily for two weeks you might be weary but you would not have exhausted all the opportunities. Illumination Night is a fun and beautiful Martha's Vineyard tradition whereby members of the "little house" community in the Town of Oak Bluffs collects and displays paper lanterns of every size and description. PLAN YOUR VISIT - GET INFORMATON. I had heard about Oak Bluffs' Grand Illumination Night, but in all of our summer trips to the Vineyard we were never here during that week in August. The balmy island air, the collection of lanterns of various shapes, sizes, and colors, nodding in the breeze and lighting up these homes for the enjoyment of so many, is a must-see Martha's Vineyard experience. Courtesy of the Oak Bluffs Firemen's Association who sell T Shirts and souveniers to raise money for the raucous rockets and showering towering glitter illuminating the night sky over Vineyard Sound, this is a big Vineyard event. The furniture, like the cottages, very big on charm. Having no idea what it was or what that meant, we went to check it out. This was a gift for my bosses as they love this event each year - they loved it!!! People go all out, it's a gift! There is a buzz in the air. Before Martha's Vineyard's first Grand Illumination Night and before the grand Iron Tabernacle at the heart of the Camp Meeting Grounds in Oak Bluffs was built in 1879, there was a simple stand of oak trees. They brought their families and camped out for weeks, setting up tents in a field about a block from the sea. Martha's guests are provided a list of dining places with cost and our taste test. As the community grew, there was a pressing need for an open yet protected space that could accommodate hundreds of people and protect them from the sun and rain. The following year, President Ulysses S. Grant presided at the event.

This weekend-long holiday happening raises more than $50, 000 for charity each year, drawing huge crowds for Santa's arrival, the Teddy Bear Trot, the Christmas parade down Main Street, special sales and great deals in many shops, and the annual illumination of the Edgartown lighthouse. The street lights go out, and the narrow, winding paths of the Campground's remaining 300 cottages begin to glow. The cottages of E. Carpenter, Dr. Tucker, the Holmans, and others on Narragansett Avenue, and a host of others all challenged the enthusiastic admiration of the multitude of spectators.
