Plagued brings in chunky riffs and atmospheric verses and explosive choruses, while another of the album's singles Black Hole sticks to the metalcore formula of slightly slower atmospheric verses, grandiose chorus and a filthy breakdown alongside a great feature from Beartooth's Caleb Shomo. In fact, the whole album feels like some sort of sibling to that of those British metalcore rogues; despite the inherently dark themes, both albums have a positive undercurrent and layer the metalcore paradigm with distinct nuances of pop, indie rock, and cinematic flavor. At the core is their classic metalcore sound but this time backed up with the addition of eerie synth lines and echoing gang vocals almost acting as a ghostly chorus. Its follow up, The Anchor provides another highlight too and hearing Stephen's heartfelt performance it's incredible to think that it very nearly didn't make the cut for this album. I don't think die hard fans will be too displeased, and there are some good songs on this album, it just didn't live up to its potential. Review: We Came As Romans – Darkbloom

This track would be at home on any top-40 station, but I want more metal in my metalcore. After such an emotional moment, Doublespeak hits like a sledgehammer. Darkbloom is released on October 14th via Sharptone Records. Some of us would perhaps rather have witnessed the band step further from their comfort zone, although I have a feeling that these same individuals have a hard time coming to terms with the band's radio-friendly sound, to begin with: deathcore breaks and singalong choruses, like, wtf?! Lead singer Dave Stephens jumped on the ego riser, and we were off. MSRP: Was: Now: $49. The lyrics describe the world coming undone and how the human race may wither away. This goes on for a good thirty seconds too long in my opinion- and the instruments finally enter with a bang around the 45-second mark; however, this is short-lived, and the verses go back to that stripped-down, effects-laden nothingness with more of those robotic nonsense words. It will be the last time the group performs these songs live and the trek will feature support from The Devil Wears Prada, Dayseeker and Hollow Front. Perhaps most of all for vocalist Dave Stephens, who no longer had Pavone alongside him on the mic.

Yes, some of the songs on the album are markedly radio-friendly and poppy, with the single release, "One More Day, " being the best candidate, perhaps, for endless radio play. The big, sweeping chorus is something you could expect to hear on the radio any time from the early 2000s on. "Golden" and "The Anchor" scratch the nostalgia itch and see the band play to their roots; this mix of sounds old and new refreshes their sound without detaching themselves from their prior identity. "Doublespeak, " for instance, is a massive maelstrom of pure hate and chopped-up riffs. They ripped through fan favorite songs "Eclipse" and played the new "Exodus", looking around, the crowd was very much into them. The chorus is catchy, and the cleans create some nice contrast, but I feel like the pinch of salt has been left out of this track.
